1974: The Flag Factory, Santa Barbara CA
The Flag Factory was established in 1974 in magical and coastal Santa Barbara, California. Four years later the first Christmas line of festive garlands was launched under the name The Holly Workshop.
In 1984, Jonathan Alburger, a college graduate, joined the company which rapidly grew with the launching of the avenue banner and custom event decorations brand, Main Street Banner USA.
1985 saw the launch of Pacific Coast Flagpole, a few years later becoming iPi Interstate Pole Industries.
What started as one man’s American Dream, wrapped up in cotton bunting stuffed in a beat-up station wagon carrying a wood extension ladder tied on top with sisal rope, grew into Southern California’s leader in furnishing flags and installing special event banner decorations.
2023: A Family of Companies
After more than 50 years, The Flag Factory remains a family owned and operated enterprise with long-time employees, skilled craftsmen, dedicated installers, and devoted management. Some of the existing clients date back to the very beginning, such as Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara and the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles.
Experienced, Dedicated Staff
Today, the family running The Flag Factory works with managers, seamstresses and installers who have been with the company 20, 30, some even 40+ years. In 2021, “AnyFlag” and “American Flag & Gift” joined the family roster of companies.
The Flag Factory and its divisions currently operate in Carpinteria, California, just 10 miles south of Santa Barbara. The warehouse-office complex features sales, management, graphic design, digital production, a weld shop, 20 sewing machines, and an on-line flag sales operation. It offers the largest selection of quality fabrications on the West Coast and the capability to install those custom creations on city streets and shopping centers using one of our several boom trucks.
No project is too big, too tall, or too complex for this family business and their history-rich staff. Whether you need a full-color digital fabric print “by tomorrow,” or 130 flags for a non-profit marketing campaign shipped to 130 locations, The Flag Factory can supply the talent and tenacious spirit to get it done for you!
